Corelle® Dinnerware - Vitrelle® Glass Use & Care

Read these Instructions Carefully and Save them for Future Reference Corelle® plates and bowls are made of Vitrelle® glass. Mugs are made of porcelain or stoneware as noted on the package. Please review information on bottom of items prior to use.

Corelle® products can be used for serving and re-heating food in microwaves or pre-heated conventional ovens up to 350° F (176° C). To warm empty dinnerware for serving, use pre-heated conventional ovens only. Porcelain and stoneware mugs are microwavable.

ALL GLASS, PORCELAIN AND STONEWARE CAN BE BROKEN and care should be taken in handling. A drop or knock against a hard object may cause immediate breakage or enough damage so that the item breaks later for no apparent reason. Such breakage may make a noise and can break into many small pieces. Be careful in handling as pieces may be sharp.

Wash Corelle® dinnerware items by hand or in an automatic dishwasher. Load items to avoid bumping against other items during cycle. To remove gray or rust marks, clean with non-abrasive cleanser. If scouring is necessary, use only plastic or nylon cleaning pads with non-abrasive cleansers. DO NOT allow stoneware or porcelain mugs to soak/stand in water for an extended period of time. Applied heat after soaking may cause glaze cracking.

  • Q:

The picture on this product makes the smaller late to look like it is actually 8.5" instead of a bread and butter plate. Is it the little plate or the medium plate. Other groupings have plates that look like the 6" ish plate and it is called bread and butter. But this picture looks like it is the medium plate (to which is the plate that I am looking for)

  • Q:

Can coffee mugs made in China be used in microwave. Is there lead in them and why are dishes made in US but not cups
Asked on 11/11/2015 by Housewife from Indiana

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Yes, these mugs can be used in a microwave.

Stoneware mugs and Vitrelle glass dinnerware adhere with all applicable federal and state safety regulations regarding lead content. The current limit for presence of leachable lead in order to satisfy certain requirements is no more than 0.100 ppm (1 tenth of one part per million) when obtained under test conditions. At no time have Corelle's results exceeded levels permissible under the guidelines mentioned above (which are believed to be the most stringent in the world).

Corelle's glass lamination process is terrific for making plates and bowls, but unfortunately does not work well for mug shapes. That's why we offer decorated ceramic cups or generously proportioned solid color stoneware mugs using better quality glazes than what is typically offered on stoneware tableware. It was a business decision to produce these in China.

  • Q:

I just purchased two of the Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16 Piece Dinnerware Sets. The bowls and plates had a greasy/oily coating on them that was difficult to remove. I had to run them through the dishwasher twice. I saw this explanation on the FAQ page: "Before Corelle® products leave the factory, they are sprayed with an organic, non-toxic coating to help prevent damage during shipping. Wash your Corelle® ware with detergent and hot water before using it, or run it through a dishwasher cycle."
Can you please tell me what exactly the coating is? I know it says it's non-toxic, however, I am pregnant and I am concerned to eat off our dishes in case I didn't get it all off.
    Thank you.

      A:

Unfortunately we are unable to provide any specific information as to the makeup of the coating, as that information is proprietary. However, we can confirm that the coating is non-toxic and does not contain any animal byproducts or derivatives.
