Corelle® Dinnerware - Vitrelle® Glass Use & Care

Read these Instructions Carefully and Save them for Future Reference Corelle® plates and bowls are made of Vitrelle® glass. Mugs are made of porcelain or stoneware as noted on the package. Please review information on bottom of items prior to use.

Corelle® products can be used for serving and re-heating food in microwaves or pre-heated conventional ovens up to 350° F (176° C). To warm empty dinnerware for serving, use pre-heated conventional ovens only. Porcelain and stoneware mugs are microwavable.

ALL GLASS, PORCELAIN AND STONEWARE CAN BE BROKEN and care should be taken in handling. A drop or knock against a hard object may cause immediate breakage or enough damage so that the item breaks later for no apparent reason. Such breakage may make a noise and can break into many small pieces. Be careful in handling as pieces may be sharp.

Wash Corelle® dinnerware items by hand or in an automatic dishwasher. Load items to avoid bumping against other items during cycle. To remove gray or rust marks, clean with non-abrasive cleanser. If scouring is necessary, use only plastic or nylon cleaning pads with non-abrasive cleansers. DO NOT allow stoneware or porcelain mugs to soak/stand in water for an extended period of time. Applied heat after soaking may cause glaze cracking.

  • Q:

We have purchased The corelle Square pure white dishes for our rental units. We have a total of 76 place settings. The plates and bowls are fantastic and are made of the quality substance that led us to Corelle. The porcelain coffee cups mark extensively from spoons and the dishwasher and appear stained and dirty. It is almost all of them that are like this. These marks won't even bleach off. We loved the old mugs that were not the porcelain ones. Has anyone had this problem? It is too expensive to purchase the dishes separately so we can get different mugs. Any suggestions?

      A:

Hi Pat. We regret to hear of the difficulties you are experiencing with your mugs. Although Corelle® plates and bowls are a very hard glass surface and the mugs are a very durable stoneware or porcelain, the following can leave gray metal marks on your Corelle®:

      Metal utensils
      Silverware
      Exposed metal on dishwasher racks
      Contact with metal cleaning pads
Prolonged contact with stainless steel sinks

These gray marks can be removed with a non-abrasive cleaner such as Bar Keepers Friend. This is a professional non-abrasive powdered cleanser perfect for cleaning cook pots and materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, porcelain, fiberglass, glass cook tops, copper, tile, and brass. You can find this product at your local Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, or local hardware store in their cleanser aisles.

We do not recommend using bleach as it does not actually remove the stain from the surface.

  • Q:

I purchased the plain white dinnerware and love it. However I do not like the mugs. Are there any mugs available to purchase that are the same lightweight material as the dishes in white. Thanks

      A:

We're sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, there are no mugs available in the Corelle Vitrelle material. Corelle's glass lamination process is terrific for making plates and bowls, but unfortunately does not work well for mug shapes. That's why we offer decorated ceramic cups or generously proportioned solid color stoneware mugs using better quality glazes than what is typically offered on stoneware tableware.

Some older versions of Corelle mugs are safe for use in a pre-heated conventional oven, however the stoneware and porcelain mugs that we currently offer are only intended for microwave use.

Hi, I still cannot figure out if this product contains lead or not. On your website it says that your stoneware and glazes may contain it within the stringent CA norms. But my question is, do your Square TM vitrelle pure white dishes contain any lead (since they are not stoneware) and are supposed to be only glass. Thank you.

  • Q:

Is there any lead or cadmium in your plain white dinnerware sets?
Asked on 10/8/2014 by Tim from For Thomas KY

      A:

The current limit for presence of leachable lead in order to satisfy certain requirements is no more than 0.100 ppm (1 tenth of one part per million) when obtained under test conditions. At no time have World Kitchen's results exceeded levels permissible under the guidelines mentioned above (which are believed to be the most stringent in the world).

Tests for the presence of heavy metals are conducted for World Kitchen by internationally certified, third-party laboratories under strict conditions, by trained technicians, and using atomic absorption spectrophotometry analysis following carefully monitored preparation. These steps are necessary to minimize any possibility of contamination or false reading during preparation, testing or analysis.
